Orthopaedics

Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) support the tracking of physical function and pain associated with the treatment of conditions and diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system.
Examples of common Orthopaedics PROMs in OutcomeMD:
ConditionPROM PROM use in literature
Achilles tendon rupture
  • Achilles Tendon Rupture Scale (ATRS)

As an authorized American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) vendor, OutcomeMD submits PRO data related to hip and knee arthroplasty procedures to the AJRR. The AJRR uses this data to provide evidence-based information to guide clinicians in decision-making to improve patient care.

Additionally, as the certified partner of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), OutcomeMD works to respect ICHOM’s recommended PROMs for inflammatory arthritis and hip and knee osteoarthritis when possible.

For bone and joint conditions that encompass more than one patient area or domain (neck pain + pain intensity + physical function), OutcomeMD has developed clusters of multiple PROs based on validated medical literature. With our PRO clusters, you will always have a comprehensive view of how your patient is progressing.

The value of OutcomeMD to Orthopaedics:

  • Obtain a current and accurate description of your patient’s experience with pain to inform, treatment decisions
  • A study of a patient reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess disability of hand and shoulder found significantly less missing data when patients completed electronic PROs vs. paper1, leading to more comprehensive patient data with which to base decisions
  • Quickly identify your patients who are plateauing or worsening during therapy, and modify their treatment plan accordingly
  • In Sweden, patients with rheumatoid arthritis outcomes are tracked at each visit using PROMs, and the results are used to guide treatment plans, implement modifications as needed, and inform lifestyle changes2
  • In orthopaedic practices where PROMs have been collected routinely since 2009, clinicians review the data to identify patients for whom improvements have not been reported, to flag for follow-up3
Did your patient have a great outcome? With OutcomeMD, your patients with good outcomes can now publicly celebrate their improvement with ease by posting on their social media accounts (lead generation) and on your review sites (reputation management)!

DO YOU NEED A PROM
THAT IS NOT IN OUTCOMEMD?
We routinely add new, validated PROMs into OutcomeMD to ensure that you can track all patient outcomes that will allow you to optimize care management. If you would like to send your patients a PROM that is not yet available in our software platform, let us know.
